Veteran baseball announcer, Ernie Harwell was born in Washington, Georgia. Harwell became an Atlanta correspondent for "The Sporting News" at the age of 16. Ernie Harwell was inducted into the Radio Hall of Fame in 1998.

Recipient of the Ford C. Frick Award (presented to a broadcaster for major contributions to baseball) in 1981.

While he was awarded the Ford Frick Award by the Hall of Fame, he (and all other recipients) is not considered a member of the Hall (contrary to the mini-biography above).
