What the Elle?  By: Rebecca Davis

It's official: the '90s are back. In case the flannel Louboutin pumps (which we're convinced cross-dressing Kurt Cobain would have worn were he alive today) arriving in stores this month don't make you a believer, the news that Shannen Doherty is in talks to join 90210 (2.0) certainly will. While she hasn't officially signed on yet, shooting for the fall TV show is well underway, with reports coming out that what had formerly been known as Eat Well Café in Los Angeles has been turned into the Peach Pit overnight. And while yesterday may have been Black Tuesday for Starbucks baristas (and the people who rely on them for their daily dose of caffeine), another well-known coffee joint — Central Perk — may be getting a second chance. The Daily Mail has reported that a Friends movie is in the works. Although we haven't heard of many women clamoring for a Rachel haircut to go with their '90s-inspired Alexander Wang jeans, the fact that Sex and the City did so well (bringing in $300 million so far) may have helped to get this project going. Next up? Seinfeld, the Musical and the return of Elaine's ankle-grazing floral skirts.

Jay-Z may have 99 problems, but winning over Glastonbury fans ain't one. The New York rapper, headlining the annual mud'n'music fest this past weekend, responded to comments by Oasis guitarist Noel Gallagher (who famously said this spring, "I'm not having hip-hop at Glastonbury. It's wrong.") by, well, taking a page from the Brit rocker's music book. Strapping on a guitar wasn't the weapon of choice for Amy Winehouse; when an audience member grabbed at her beehive, the recently-hospitalized singer threw a punch. Her violent response was not sanctioned by Nelson Mandela, we're guessing, although he may have a soft spot for "Blake Incarcerated." And while Jennifer Aniston had her own personal paparazzi moment this weekend, when she was spotted snapping photos of her rocker boyfriend John Mayer performing in London on Saturday night, she was not the shutterbug who captured Winehouse's Glastonbury altercation on film. Let's hope that Beyonce passed along some sage advice to Winehouse while the two singers cheered from the VIP section during Jay-Z's set.

Nicole Richie

Formerly the domain of B-list actors and fading stars, appearing on the boob tube has recently become de rigueur for big name celebs. From Naomi Campbell to Britney Spears to Lindsay Lohan, TV has been all about the guest appearance this past year, and it doesn't look like it will be changing anytime soon. In between caring for five-month-old Harlow and filming her new reality TV series, Nicole Richie will appear in an episode of Chuck this fall. According to People.com, the executive producer Josh Schwartz says that, "Nicole auditioned for the part and was very funny." Meanwhile, Mary-Kate Olsen — who guest-starred on the series Weeds earlier this year, to critical acclaim — has signed on to appear on Samantha Who? "She showed up alone, ready to work, is great on set and is serious about the job," Executive Producer Don Todd says. And while it's unclear whether these performances will be award-worthy, the top 10 finalists for this year's Emmy Award for comedy and drama were announced this morning. Among the shows in the running for the prestigious TV award are Curb Your Enthusiasm, Flight of the Conchords, The Office, Ugly Betty, Weeds, Grey's Anatomy, Mad Men, and The Tudors. No word yet on whether Victoria Beckham will win for her acting turn on Ugly Betty last season.

Agyness Deyn and ELLE Awards

Just weeks after reportedly breaking up with her long-term beau, Agyness Deyn has found a friend — and possibly more — in The Strokes guitarist Albert Hammond Jr. The duo was first spotted together at the Songwriters Hall of Fame awards last Friday, where they spent the ceremony nuzzling one another. While the PDA may sound shocking, the rocker-model pairing certainly isn't; Deyn's ex-boyfriend was Josh Hubbard, guitarist for British band The Paddingtons. Hammond Jr., whose second solo album comes out July 8, clearly knows his way to this model's heart — just last night they were seen riding bikes together around New York City. As of late, Deyn has been eyeing a transition from supermodel to superstar, lending her developing vocal talents to the band 5 O'Clock Heroes on their new single "Who" and signing on to appear in the BBC's Dr. Who Christmas special. Perhaps contributing guest vocals to The Strokes' new album is next for this cover girl.

Amy Winehouse

After a much-publicized collapse and hospitalization last week, Mitch Winehouse set the record straight on what's ailing his daughter Amy. As reported by People.com, the singer has emphysema — and it could turn life-threatening if she doesn't clean up her act. "With smoking the crack cocaine and the cigarettes her lungs are all gunked up," Winehouse says, adding, "The doctors have told her if she goes back to smoking drugs it won't just ruin her voice, it will kill her."

Despite this dour prognosis, the gossip column regular is hoping to still make it to Nelson Mandela's 90th birthday party this weekend, where she is scheduled to perform. This follows a rather hectic month for Winehouse, in which she was arrested, and then released on bail, for suspicion of drug use. And while Winehouse the singer may have to cancel her upcoming gigs, Winehouse the muse is seeing the fruits of her labor; Chanel's pre-fall Métiers d'Art collection, inspired by the songstress' oft-imitated personal style, arrives in stores this month, and a dance piece choreographed by Nicholas Leichter, which incorporates her neo-soul songs, premieres this week. If there is anyone who can make Winehouse go clean, it's Mandela; if the man can get South Africa through apartheid, surely he can make this Brit drop a nasty addiction.
